An Open Geospatial Engine for Agriculture
OpenFMIS is a modular, open-core geospatial engine designed specifically for agriculture. It starts with a proven Ag-focused GIS system in our hands now being reconfigured into an open and modern framework.
This is not a new FMIS (farm management information system) platform or app competing with existing systems. It’s a shared framework, a technical base layer that others can build on, integrate with, and contribute to. By starting from a common geospatial core, we can reduce duplication, improve interoperability, and make it easier for developers, businesses, and farmers to work together.

This is a flexible framework and meant for:
This isn’t about replacing the tools that already exist or competing with FMIS platforms and SaaS offerings. It’s about shifting how we think about geospatial infrastructure in agriculture.
Most AgTech tools are built in isolation. Each one recreates the same basic mapping functions, controls data in its own vault, and makes it hard to connect with others. OpenFMIS is here to change that, not by disruption, but by offering a shared base that makes collaboration easier, more trusted, and more efficient for everyone involved.
Farm Management Information Systems have delivered value for decades, but most are locked into fragmented frameworks. They’re difficult to extend, hard to connect, and expensive to maintain. Meanwhile, simpler tools lack the depth or interoperability needed to drive adoption at scale.
We’re now left with a fractured digital landscape where:
Data is scattered
Field data lives in multiple systems, formats, and standards, making collaboration difficult and error-prone.
Mapping is antiquated
Each app recreates the same processes: adding, editing, analyzing, and exporting field data in its own way.
Privacy is unbalanced
Systems either lock data down entirely or demand too much access without giving users real control.
We repeat ourselves
Everyone rebuilds the same basic GIS tools over and over, without adding true value
The result?
Siloed systems on closed islands. Repeated costs. Slow innovation. A digital ag ecosystem that’s too hard to trust, too complex to share, and too disconnected to grow.
We’ve all become pirates in a sea with less and less to plunder.
Instead of building yet another app, we’re opening up a shared geospatial framework—a technical starting point that handles the basics so others can focus on what makes them unique.
This isn’t a finished platform. It’s a template, a toolkit, a sandbox, a guide—built specifically for agriculture and designed to evolve with the needs of the community. Anyone can build on it, extend it, or connect to it. The core handles foundational GIS functions so developers and Ag companies don’t have to keep starting from scratch.
Here’s what the open core already supports:
Import, export, create, edit, manage, and attribute spatial field data
From single growers to cooperatives, organizations, and government systems—with flexible and unlimited group/user logic
Store, manage, and process raster, vector, point, and text data across a variety of different methods and types
Set access by user, group, function, and data type while fully customizable and configurable
Track what’s added, changed, processed, or shared—down to the field, acre, or pixel
Store data where users choose, not in a centralized cloud unless they want it served that way
This base is already functional and built to be configured and re-used. It’s not a black box, it’s a sandbox. You can plug in your own UI, create custom workflows, and develop proprietary tools while still staying aligned with the shared core with community attributed and designed contribution.
The Opportunity: A System That Can Last for All
This is about more than another tool. It’s about rethinking how agricultural data infrastructure works and who it’s built for.
We’re creating:
Shared, field-ready GIS logic that anyone can build on
Trackable usage and monetization tied to actual contributions
Scalable across companies, regions, and use cases
Data lives where users and clients choose, not where we do
Shared frameworks built on permission, privacy, and clarity
Focused on service, contribution, and long-term alignment with the ag community
This is built with experience, trust, and the understanding that farmers and their trusted advisors value independence, legacy, and control. The digital systems they use should respect that and help enable it.
Learn more about how we are defining our Business around this
We’re actively forming the new business, structures, and building the first public release of the system. To make this work, we’re looking for contributors and collaborators who align with this vision and are ready to help shape the future of AgTech—together.
Businesses and Partners
Who want to integrate, contribute, or extend the system with real-world tools and services
Investors and Supporters
Who believe agriculture deserves better digital infrastructure—and want to help build it responsibly
Developers & Contributors
Who understand open frameworks, geospatial systems, and want to work on meaningful infrastructure
Farmers and Service Providers
Who want a system that respects how they work, and are willing to guide what needs to be built
We already have a strong starting point. Now we’re opening the door for others to join.
This is our chance to build something lasting, collaborative, and grounded in the realities of agriculture.
